I Will Never Regret These Iconic 90s Accessories

No regrets.

For many, looking back and remembering 90s fashion conjures up memories of frosted tips, bum bags and a mammoth scrunchie collection. While those memories might haunt some, they have the opposite effect on me.

I’ll admit, I was just a kid in the 90s – but it was a time in my life where fashion was still fun and playfulness was encouraged. I will never regret these iconic 90s accessories:

1. Butterfly Clips

When was the last time you saw a butterfly clip? I’m talking about those brightly-coloured, glitter-covered clips you’d cover your 8-year-old head in before a ‘special occasion.’ They’re hard to come by in 2019, but they bring back so many great memories of McDonald’s birthday parties and thinking I was going to grow up to become the best hairstylist in the world. TBH, that dream is still within reach with these iconic hair slides and bobby pins from Colette. These fancy headbands should also do the trick.

2. Bum Bags

Bum bags, or ‘fanny packs’ as they are hilariously known in the States, are insanely practical. Think about it – instead of carrying your useless crap around in an annoying handbag, bum bags keep your belongings in a secure pouch within arms reach. You can still channel your inner Dwayne Johnson but make it farshun with these cute bum bags from Colette.

3. Hair Extensions

While we’re on the topic of iconic 90s fashion and hair accessories, you can’t go past hair extensions. My ultimate style inspiration was Mandy Moore in the music video for her 1999 track ‘Candy.’ All I wanted to do was sing in the mirror like Mandy, wearing an oversized Discman and a spiky hair scrunchie.

4. Tiny Round Sunglasses

90s sunglasses are huge right now, and back in the day, they were just as cool. My first pair of sunglasses were round and had orange lenses – not sure why my parents didn’t care about them being polarised enough to protect my eyes, but damn, did I look good. These sunglasses are also giving me similar vibes.

5. Bandanas

Bad hair day? Chuck on a bandana. Need another accessory? Grab your favourite head scarf. This nifty little hair accessory was sported by the likes of Christina Aguilera and TLC which made it a staple in my 90s wardrobe.

6. Chokers

Chokers were so big in 90s fashion, they’ve died and come back to life in our wardrobes today – don’t believe me? Check out these cute chokers from Colette. Who knows why wearing a necklace or black cord tight around your neck looks so damn stylish, but it just does!

So there you have it. The 90s shouldn’t make you cringe, the era should make you smile with delight knowing that 90% of your fave 90s trends are already back in fashion.

Australia’s Colette by Colette Hayman’s newly launched hair accessory range is full of bobby pins, hair clips, and headbands to help you get your 90s trend fix.
