While chatting to James Corden during a taping of The Late Late Show recently, Cher divulged more information about the time she and Meryl Streep once stopped a “gigantic man” from physically attacking a woman and ripping her clothes off on the streets of Downtown Manhattan in the 1980s.

According to Cher, Streep had just given birth to her daughter Mamie, and was keen to head out for some ice cream. That’s where things took a turn for the dramatic.
“And so we walk out and the first thing we see is some guy hitting cars with a brick. And then we walk down the street and we hear screaming. And we come around the corner, and this gigantic man is ripping the clothes off of this girl.”
According to Cher, the two women decided to deal with the situation and help the victim instead of running away.
The only problem? The attacker turned his sights on Meryl and Cher!
“Meryl starts screaming, and I start screaming, and we run toward this gigantic man and he turns and starts running toward us. And just out of, I don’t know, we split and he ran through us.”
Best of all? When Cher and Meryl went to check if the woman was OK, she apparently turned to them both and couldn’t believe her eyes.
“She goes, ‘Oh my God! I was saved by Meryl Streep and Cher. I’m an actress, and I work in a café where we sing, and all my friends are going to be so jealous.’”
Can we get a Meryl and Cher superhero movie happening STAT?
Forget Mama Mia! Here We Go Again (where Cher will play Meryl’s mum!), let’s get these ladies in crimefighting Lycra and point ’em at a worthy cause.
Lord knows we have enough of them.
