Charlize Theron deserves an award. Not only is she an incredibly talented actress with a career spanning over 20 years, but she’s drop dead gorgeous enough to pull off a hairstyle you haven’t seen since your mum blindly trusted you with a pair of scissors at age five.
Yes, that’s right. Theron has stepped out sporting a bowl cut, and to be honest, she’s never looked better.
The 44-year-old actor took to Instagram to debut her new look – a cropped, highlighted bowl-shaped cut complete with an epic chunky fringe. Judging by the caption, Theron’s new do is for her upcoming role in Fast & Furious 9 as cyberterrorist Cipher.
It’s unclear whether the bowl cut is a wig, or Theron’s actual hair, but either way, it’s a far cry from Cipher’s long blonde dreadlocks in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious.
But are we really that surprised that Theron nailed a haircut that literally no one else could ever pull off? Over the course of her career, she’s become well-versed in the art of transforming her appearance for movie roles.
In the 2003 drama Monster, Theron portrayed serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a former prostitute who was executed in 2002 for killing six men in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. In preparation for the role, Theron gained 13 kilos, overplucked her eyebrows, sported greasy hair and prosthetic teeth – leaving her virtually unrecognisable.
Theron’s gruelling physical transformation proved well worth it when she was awarded an Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe for her performance which was praised by critics as “one of the greatest in the history of the cinema.”
The actress is also set to star in the upcoming blockbuster Bombshell as news anchor Megyn Kelly alongside Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie. In the trailer for the film, Theron is a spitting image of Kelly thanks to the art of makeup and prosthetics.
Shoutout to Charlize Theron for being a graceful chameleon in everything she does. And for being the only living creature who can pull off a bowl cut.
