Another 90210 Reboot Is In The Works, And Ooh Boy The Original Cast Is Onboard

My first question is: why?

According to VarietyCBS is shopping around what can generously be described as the reanimated corpse of your older sister’s favourite 90s teen soap, Beverly Hills, 90210.

Unlike the 2008 reboot which starred young actors nobody had yet heard of (plus Jennie Garth), this iteration will star much of the original cast, and will be picking up where the original series left off.

Variety reports that Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green, and Gabrielle Carteris are said to be on board for the new series. Notable absences from that list include Luke Perry, who’s now known as Archie’s dad on Riverdale, and Shannen Doherty, AKA Prue from Charmed.

The revival is set to be spearheaded by the same showrunners who brought us the 2008 reboot, Mike Chessler,  Chris Alberghini and Ghen Maynard, according to Deadline.

The original series was created by Darren Star, who went on to create Melrose Place, Sex and the City, and Younger.

Tori Spelling previously teased a return with an Instagram post all the way back in March. The caption on the post, a selfie of Spelling at CBS Television Studios, read:

“#back2work great creative day yesterday with my #partnerincrime@jenniegarth #90210vibes#donnaandkellyforver #besties”

Let’s hope this revival is more successful than the 2008 reboot was. At least it won’t have to worry about competing with Gossip Girl!
