Hayley Atwell Reckons Captain America Totally Told Peggy About Kissing Her Great-Niece

This would have been awkward!

Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter finally got their happy ending in Avengers: Endgame when Steve went back in time to live out his days with the love of his life. But when Steve went back to Peggy he had little bit of explaining to do…

Let’s go back to the beginning.

Steve met S.H.I.E.L.D. founder Peggy in Captain America: The First Avenger and they proceeded to fall in love over the course of the film (and who wouldn’t fall in love with Chris Evans, let’s be honest).

However, the pair’s relationship comes to a tragic end when Steve seemingly dies after crashing a ship into the Arctic.

When Captain America’s frozen body is finally discovered it’s many years later and while Steve’s still young and hot, Peggy has aged and lived a full life.

She later dies in Captain America: Civil War, breaking Steve’s heart.

Later on in Civil War, however, Steve shares a kiss with Peggy’s great-niece Sharon Carter, which is a little awkward if you think about it.

So, when Steve went back in time in Endgame, would he have told Peggy? Hayley Atwell thinks so.

The actress, who played Peggy in the MCU films and her own TV show, told IGN, “Probably, in a very awkward way, that probably meant there was a domestic. Words were said, voices may have risen.”

However, she doesn’t think the kiss would have been a dealbreaker for Peggy, “Wouldn’t that be hilarious? If they had a proper argument about it and she just slams the door and he goes off fishing for the weekend or something, I don’t know.”

She added that it would have probably been quite funny rather than dramatic, “Because it’s the ’40s I think it can have such a beautiful, wholesome, kind of screwball comedy tone to it, rather than a soap opera.”

It’s good to know the pair can survive the awkward “sorry I kissed your great-niece” situation.

Atwell will return to the MCU in the new animated series What If…? where she’ll reprise her role as Peggy. In the show, alternate realities are explored, so, in this case, Peggy will receive the super-soldier serum instead of Steve, who will instead use an Iron Man suit made by Howard Stark.

Chris Evans, however, isn’t confirmed to be returning as the voice of Steve so there is a chance his role will be recast.
