Chelsea Peretti Says Leaving Brooklyn 99 Wasn’t “Fully” Her Call, So Now It’s Time For Gina’s Revenge

This is a stone-cold atrocity.

Gina Linetti, the human form of the 100 emoji, departed the 99 precinct this week, and with her went 300% of Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s sparkle, originality and dance moves.

OK, we’ll still watch – and she’ll be back for at least one episode this season – but it won’t be the same.

And now it seems that Gina’s decision to find out if her true talents lie beyond office administration wasn’t even ?% Chelsea Peretti’s call.

In a post-departure interview with TVLine, Peretti said Gina leaving the 99 “wasn’t fully just my decision”.

“It’s hard to get into the weeds of what exactly transpired and how it all shook out, but it kind of came together to be this timing that presented itself. So I kind of knew that it was going to be happening for a while.”

Peretti doesn’t go into it beyond that, and says there’s “nothing but family feel”, which is a phrase that sounds more Boyle than Linetti, tbh.

It’s a bit mysterious, but given that the show nearly didn’t get a second chance at all after its cancellation by Fox, we’re lucky to get as much Gina as we did.

Peretti does also admit that she wrote the bit where Gina roasts her self-commissioned golden statue for having cheap-looking jeans and sausage fingers – and for that, and for all things Gina, we will always be grateful.
