Brie Larson is more than just the record-destroying, probably-Thanos-defeating Captain Marvel.
She’s also a filmmaker, with a couple of short film directing credits under her belt, some jury prizes from SXSW to go with them, and her first feature film out on Netflix in April.
Unicorn Store, which was first released in 2017 at the Toronto International Film Festival, stars Larson alongside her Captain Marvel co-star and BFF, Samuel L. Jackson. It looks cute and fun and nice.
So excited to share the trailer for Unicorn Store, @brielarson's directorial debut and an absolutely charming, heartfelt, exploration of the things that drive us and the creativity that adulthood often tries to extinguish. pic.twitter.com/1nLqX8DJ3r

Of course, some people don’t really like things that are cute and fun and nice, especially when they’re created by (ugh) women.
I’m not saying the dude who replied to Netflix’s tweet above definitely thinks that way. But for whatever reason, he decided to share his opinion in a now-deleted reply tweet that read:
Lol this looks like bleh. Take notes from Jonah Hill, who was mentored by Martin Scorsese, and took years before he made his directorial debut out of respect for the artistry of film and position of director. This seems like she’s just riding Captain Marvel’s wave. ?
I mean, if you haven’t been personally mentored by Martin Scorsese, it’s just disrespectful as hell to the artistry of film to, uh, direct a film.
Also, just as a reminder, this first came out in 2017 – i.e. two full years before Captain Marvel was even released, and the year after Larson won an Oscar.
Fortunately, the soon-to-be-promoted social media manager in charge of the Netflix Film account that day was armed with facts.
Props to whoever runs @netflix's social media for utterly destroying this dude. pic.twitter.com/PsdDMiO61n

God damn I’ve never seen someone get dunked on so hard.

Stop. Stop. He’s already dead. (Or at least put his account on private.)
Just kidding! Keep going! Here’s another beautiful exchange with another fella who dislikes Brie Larson for reasons no doubt totally unrelated to her feminism:
Meh. @NetflixFilm, ya'll need to stop pushing agendas.
Between this and raising prices, I'm about to drop ya'll for @hulu.— DannyJ?? (@GreyHouseDan) March 22, 2019
oh no. they've found out about our illicit backdoor deals with BIG UNICORN
— Netflix Film (@NetflixFilm) March 22, 2019
Something tells me that Brie Larson could literally make a Scorsese movie with an all-male cast who murder each other to death at the end in a totally meaningful way, and these dudes would feel the need to inform the entire internet that it’s not to their liking.

That’s cool, though! More movies about unicorns, Samuel L Jackson wearing sparkles, and life advice from Joan Cusack for the rest of us.
