The well-received grandeur of both the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and Rami Malek’s award-winning performance in the film has successfully catapulted the band’s music back into the charts.
The film raked in nearly $55 million at the Aussie box office and the band has three albums – including the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack – in the ARIA top 10 this week.
Now the hype of the film and Rami’s performance as former frontman Freddie Mercury has paved the way for Queen to return down under.
Or at least it’s a version of Queen. The 2020 Rhapsody tour will feature original members Brian May and Roger Taylor together again with Adam Lambert stepping into Freddie Mercury’s shoes. The band’s first bassist John Deacon left the band in 1997.
Lambert first performed with Queen in 2009 and has played nearly 200 shows for them since. Referred to sometimes as Q+AL or QAL, the group that now makes up Queen aims to bring to life the glory that Freddie Mercury brought to the stage before he died in 1991.
“We have a brand-new visual spectacle that will reframe these iconic songs and we are excited to reveal the show to Australian fans,” said Lambert in a statement.
