Knocking Back Heavens Door, Bob Dylan Is Releasing A Whiskey Range

Poet, songwriter, Nobel laureate… creator of tasty, tasty spirits.

First there was George Clooney and his tequila, Dan Aykroyd and his vodka, Ryan Reynolds and his gin, and now the celebrity liquor cabinet is about to get its final drop of flavour with a contribution from none other than Bob Dylan.

Yes siree, Bob – Mr. Dylan is delving into the world of sweet lady booze and releasing his own range of whiskey aptly named, Heaven’s Door.

Dylan has been working on this new venture for a fair chunk of time, having filed a trademark application for “bootleg whiskey” three years ago.

Working alongside entrepreneur Marc Bushala (a Dylan fan who just sold his own bourbon brand just sold for $US150 million) Dylan is set to release the line later this month.

Heaven’s Door will include three whiskeys – a straight rye, a straight bourbon, and a double-barrelled whiskey.

But Dylan isn’t just cashing in on his famous name.

He’s a full partner in the brand, which has already raised $35 US million from investors.

And would you just look at that bottle design…

Wondering what all those fancy patterns are?

They’re designs from Dylan’s own ironwork sculptures.

According to the brand’s website, these designs are all inspired by Dylan himself.

“The iron gates depicted on bottles of Heaven’s Door Whiskey were created by Bob Dylan at his metalworking shop, Black Buffalo Ironworks, and are comprised of found objects collected from farms and scrap yards across America…”

According to the The New York Times Dylan used his decades of touring across the US for inspiration.

“We both wanted to create a collection of American whiskeys that, in their own way, tell a story. I’ve been traveling for decades, and I’ve been able to try some of the best spirits that the world of whiskey has to offer. This is great whiskey.”

Every folk-rock hero needs a folk-rock beverage, and this delicious beverage looks like it’s set to hit the mark.

Dylan has never done the expected, so this career sidestep isn’t’ actually that surprising…

Also, let’s be real, Dylan has always had a soft spot for commercial ventures.

Who could forget his famous Victoria’s Secret commercial from the early 2000s?

Or this Apple ad?

Or Pepsi commercial…

Let’s hope the whiskey line has a bit more integrity and staying power than these other brand deals.
