Dua Lipa Is Collabing With The World's Biggest K-pop Girl Group BLACKPINK And I'm 99% Sure This Will Reawaken The K-pop Fire In Me

If there's a music video as well, then Christmas and my next 10 birthdays have come early.

In the days before the beautiful haven GOAT, I was firmly ingrained in the shiny, perfectly-polished world that is K-pop and all of its accompanying circles. I’ve since left that world, certain that our beautiful time together will now remain buried in the memory archives for rainy nostalgic days.

Until now.

That’s because British singer Dua Lipa has announced that she will not only release a deluxe edition of her latest album, it will also feature a new collaboration track with none other than my favourite K-pop girl group – and arguably the biggest K-pop girl group in the world right now -BLACKPINK.

Excuse me, I think I’ll need a moment.

Okay, I’m good now.

Dia Lupa’s upcoming album will drop on October 19th and will contain three new songs, one of which is the BLACKPINK collaboration titled “Kiss and Make up”.

BLACKPINK have mainly been focusing on the Korean and Japanese music scenes since their 2016 debut but the quartet have had considerable success on the Billboard charts with their releases. I can only imagine that this collab with Dua Lipa will raise their already-popular profile in the west even higher.

I have no idea what to expect from this collaboration, but if it within the realm of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” combined with BLACKPINK’s “DDU-DU DDU-DU”, then I’m 99% certain that I’ll be lured back into the K-pop world once again.

Beyond the sure-to-be bonkers music, it will be interesting to see how this collaboration fares on the Western music charts. Given how much success BTS have had in the past year, seeing BLACKPINK achieve similar levels of exposure would be something of a paradigm shift for K-pop.

If there’s also a music video as stylistic as BLACKPINK’s usual fare, then I can safely push at 99% certainty to 100%.
