Photos From The Black Widow Set May Reveal Marvel's Future Plans For The Character

Very interesting!

Photos taken on the set of Black Widow might reveal the role Florence Pugh has taken on with rumours she’ll star as Yelena Belova.

THR reported in March that rising star Pugh would have a big role in the film, but it wasn’t revealed who that character was. Marvel still remains tight-lipped about which character she’ll play.

Fans know that in Avengers: Endgame, Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) dies after sacrificing herself for the Soul Stone, which the Avengers needed to defeat Thanos.

So, the solo film will be focussed on Natasha’s origin story as the Black Widow.

A rewrite of the movie happened in March, suggesting the film would add a supporting female role – this is likely to be Pugh’s role.

In new photos taken on the set of the movie, stunt dummies featuring the names Yelena and Natasha were spotted. While it’s not confirmation that Pugh is playing the role, it’s a pretty good indication that she will be.

What’s important about Yelena, is that in the comics she and Natasha were enemies who eventually became allies. Yelena then became the second person to take on the title of Black Widow.

So, these photos could suggest the MCU will introduce a new Black Widow in phase 4 of the Marvel films.

After Natasha’s sacrifice in Endgame, many fans thought she wasn’t treated with the respect she deserved as it somehow connected her inability to have children to her worth. The writers decision to sacrifice her over Clint was made to feel like it was because he had children and she couldn’t.

Pugh recently starred in Fighting with My Family and will appear in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women as Amy March.

Black Widow is expected to be released in 2020 and will mark the first MCU movie directed solely by a woman with Aussie Cate Shortland in the chair.
