'Black Widow' Finally Gave Scarlett Johansson Some Closure After 'Avengers: Endgame'

"I was kind of wiped out of that last one."

There was a lot of backlash following the death of Scarlett Johansson’s character Natasha Romanoff AKA Black Widow in Avengers: Endgame, and it seems as though the actress herself is only just getting over the whole situation now.

Many fans were seriously angry at how Natasha died in the film as the story seemed to say the only value she had was in the way she could serve the male characters of the story.

She didn’t even get a funeral scene for God’s sake!

Johannson, who has played Romanoff since 2010’s Iron Man 2, appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and was clearly excited about finally getting her own standalone film also called Black Widow.

She told the host, “We just finished it a couple of weeks ago. We shot the film in London, I’m so excited about it. I can’t wait to share it with everybody. It was fantastic. I mean, I’m partial, but I’m pretty excited.”

The actress then added that it was very much needed after Endgame, “It was honestly, it brought a closure to me that I needed. Because I was kind of wiped out of that last one [Endgame]. I mean, emotionally and literally.”

Johansson played a huge role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, which were made back to back, so it makes sense that it was a pretty intense experience for her, especially as one of the few characters to die and not come back later in the story.

She explained that she’d come to terms with her character’s end, “There’s very few certain things, but death’s pretty certain. But people definitely don’t believe it and have tried to convince me that my character did not actually die, that it exists in a different universe, but I did die.”

To get around the whole “dead” thing, the Black Widow movie will actually be set earlier in the MCU – after Captain America: Civil War (2016) and before Infinity War (2018).

This was seemingly confirmed when a 2017 BMW 5 Series Touring Wagon was seen on set. It makes sense because when has an MCU movie ever used anything other than a new or not-yet-released car? Never.

The movie will also feature a bunch of other Black Widows played by Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz and a few others.

In the comics, Pugh’s character Yelena Belova is the second person to take on the mantle of Black Widow, so it’s possible that she’ll take over the character after this film.

Black Widow is only Marvel’s second female-focused movie after Captain Marvel and we’re super pumped to see where the story goes when the film is released in May 2020.
