Attention fans of Black Panther and strong, smart, female characters – Marvel is launching a new comic book series starring King T’Challa’s sassy genius sister, Shuri.
Princess Shuri has become a beloved fan favourite since Letitia Wright’s hilarious performance as the sarcastic tech-nerd in the Black Panther movie. Shuri’s got attitude, she’s got brains and now she’s getting the attention she deserves.

Shuri is being illustrated by Eisner-nominated artist Leonardo Romero and written by the acclaimed Afrofuturist author and Nigerian-American black woman, Nnedi Okorafo, which is just the cherry on top of an already glorious announcement.
Okorafo has been a contributor already to the Black Panther comic series and she’s also got a novel on its way to becoming an HBO series with George R.R. Martin as an executive producer.
So Shuri’s story is in good hands.

launches in October this year and sees Shuri taken away from her lab and plunged into a leadership role when Wakanda’s Black Panther is lost on a mission in space. It fits into the continuity of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Panther comic book series.
According to Marvel’s official synopsis, “Shuri is happiest in a lab, surrounded by gadgets of her own creation. She’d rather be testing gauntlets than throwing them. But a nation without a leader is a vulnerable one — and Shuri may have to choose between Wakanda’s welfare and her own.”

Shuri is an awesome, strong-willed, ingenius, black, female character and it’s no surprise she’s so widely adored. The Shuri comic book series is the kind of superhero content we need so bring it on.
