It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

The New Batman Movie Will Have Two Villains But Not One Of Them Is Joaquin Phoenix's Joker Sadly

This is shaping up to be quite the interesting Batman origin story.

Now that we’ve gotten word that the next Batman will be played by Robert Pattinson (or Nicholas Hoult), the next big question for Matt Reeves’ upcoming solo Caped Crusader film, The Batman, is who will be the villains.

As it turns out, Hufflepuff Bruce Wayne may be facing not one but two baddies in his upcoming adventure and they’re not quite who most people expected.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (via Collider), The Batman will feature Catwoman and the Penguin as the antagonists who will make life difficult for Battinson.

Interesting choices.

This is quite an interesting choice as we haven’t seen Penguin in a Batman film since Danny Devito portrayed the character in Batman Returns whereas Catwoman was last seen in The Dark Knight Rises, though she isn’t technically called that in the film.

What this also sadly means is that we won’t get to see Sparkling Batman take on the Joker, which would’ve been awesome had The Batman been some sort of continuation to the upcoming Joker film. Robert Pattinson and  Joaquin Phoenix going head-to-head on the big screen, that would’ve been seriously wicked.

Now take all this with a grain of salt as nothing has been confirmed by anyone yet. As far as we know, Pattinson and Hoult are still in the running as Batman (with Pattinson being favoured), and Reeves reportedly isn’t going to start looking for his villains until the part of Bruce Wayne/Batman is sorted.

Until something is confirmed, I’m holding out hope for an appearance from Phoenix’s Joker.

Let’s put a smile on that face.

Having said all of that, we’re not going to see anything from The Batman for quite some time as it is reported that Reeves is still tinkering with the script and production won’t start until late 2019-2020 at the earliest for its scheduled June 25, 2021 release date.

In the meantime, let’s put a smile on all those faces because this is shaping up to be one of the most fascinating Batman movies in years and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
