'The Batman' Adds A Surprising Villain To Its Stellar Lineup

This movie's going to be good!

When Matt Reeves announced he was making The Batman, we knew Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader would likely go up against villains like The Riddler and The Penguin, and now the director has added a new baddie into the mix.

Reeves took to Twitter to announce John Turturro will star in the film as notorious Gotham crime boss Carmine Falcone.

While Turturro might be new to the world of comic book movies, he’s had his fair share of franchise experience from working on the Transformers movies.

Carmine Falcone is a powerful Mafia leader, nicknamed ‘The Roman’, who Bruce Wayne fights within his early vigilante years. Falcone has a big storyline in Batman: The Long Halloween, which involves members of his family and criminal organisation being murdered by a serial killer named Holiday.

Falcone has previously been played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins and John Doman in Gotham and has been involved in a few animated films and video games.

While The Batman isn’t set to be an origin story, it will tell the story of the hero as he’s still figuring out what he’s doing, so it would make sense to include Falcone.

The movie’s plot has been kept under wraps, so it’s unclear how big a role Falcone will play in the film, but it has been rumoured that The Batman will be an adaptation of The Long Halloween. If this is the case, he could find himself playing quite a large role.

Colin Farrell will star in the film as The Penguin, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

It’s believed that Harvey Dent, Firefly and the Mad Hatter will make appearances as well.

The Batman is set for release on June 25, 2021.
