A Harry Potter Alum Is Officially Batman Now And The World Makes No Sense

But before we jump the gun, there's more to the story...

UPDATE:

Looks like all the declarations of “Shiny Batman” may have been a little premature, folks.

While Variety is reporting that Robert Pattinson has been cast as the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ upcoming solo Batman movie, Deadline is reporting that it isn’t a done deal yet.

Apparently Nicholas Hoult is also in the shortlist for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, though it is reported that Pattinson is holding the edge right now.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see if we’ll get Shiny Batman or Blue Beast Batman.

ORIGINAL:

Now that Ben Affleck hung up his cape and cowl, the world has been wondering who will take up the mantle of Batman.

Well folks, we have an answer and it’s something no one could’ve possibly predicted.

According to VarietyRobert Pattinson will be playing Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming Matt Reeve’s solo Caped Crusader film, The Batman, which lines up with previous reports about Reeves wanting to focus on a younger Batman.

No, this isn’t a joke. Instead of Oscar Isaac, who everyone was expecting/hoping to be handed the keys to the Batmobile, it looks like Cedric Diggory will be the one to wear the Batsuit. No, I refuse to make any Twilight or “shiny Batman” jokes about this.

Meet your new Bruce Wayne.

I don’t know about everyone here but this is a bit of inspired casting as Pattinson has proved himself to be an absolutely brilliant actor in his post-Harry Potter and Twilight years. Just watch him in The Rover and The Lost City of Z and try to tell me otherwise.

As for when we can see Pattinson rock the Batsuit, well it’ll be a while yet. The film is still in preproduction and is scheduled for a June 25, 2021 release date so we’re going to be waiting for a while.

But the bottom line is that Pattinson’s got the charm to be Bruce Wayne and the physicality to beat up baddies as Batman so he’s pretty much perfect for the role. I Diggory it. I Diggory it a lot.
