Spoiler-Free Review: Avengers: Endgame Isn't The Ending We Wanted But It's The One We Needed

It's the greatest hits of the MCU.

After 21 films over 11 years of build up, Avengers: Endgame is easily one of the most anticipated movies in modern history, so it’s easy to worry about how it’d all turn out.

But somehow, they’ve done it and they’ve stick the landing.

Are we really that surprised?

Avengers: Endgame is one of the most thrilling cinematic experiences you could ask for. It’s a tear jerkingly brutal, beautifully composed and oozing in nostalgia, which is expected after everything that has led to this.

Dealing with the fallout from Infinity War, Endgame has our heroes in disarray and literally stranded on opposite ends of the universe and it all seems hopeless…but that’s where these characters prove how far they’ve come into their own.

#SuitUp

The first phase of the MCU introduced us to relatively optimistic characters but now, they’re world wearied, tired but still somehow hopeful.

The core group of Avengers played by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner, put in career defining performances. These are characters we’ve grown alongside, we’ve seen their development and arcs and that’s what Endgame does best… it pays off everything.

AvengeME!

Jokes, quotes and moments from literally every MCU film is paid off in one way or another, this film is like the greatest hits album of Marvel films.

It rewards those who have been there, sitting for collective hours waiting for post credits scenes or researching theories online *cough* Thanus.

Allonsy!

The film knows what you’re expecting. Action spectacles, comedic beats and dramatic moments… subverts what you’re expecting and turns it up to 11. Even after watching almost all promotional trailers, the movie still packed a lot of surprises and twists.

Directors Joe & Anthony Russo and writers Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely have pulled off one of the greatest challenges a filmmaker could undertake and have crafted a piece of art that ties everything together and makes sense out of films that until now were disregarded.

Ant man is a goddamn MVP.

Avengers: Endgame is the most important movie Marvel has ever made, there was a lot riding on it but it works. It’s everything we could ever want and more, which is a lot to say but… they’ve done it.

It’s perfect.
