Avengers: Endgame Writer Believes Peggy Carter's Unseen Husband Was Always Steve Rogers

"Steve is part of a strange, unique time-loop."

Avengers: Endgame closed Steve Rogers’ story in the best possible way, by allowing him to go back in time and live out his days with the love of his life Peggy Carter.

When Captain America was tasked with putting the Infinity Stones back in their respective places in the timeline, he used some of the Pym Particles he stole from the 1970s to go back in time once more to be with Peggy. He then returned as Old Steve and hands over his shield to the new Captain America, Sam Wilson.

Fans have questioned the move due to the confusing laws of time travel, however, one of the movie’s writers, Stephan McFeely, has revealed his thoughts on the matter.

Speaking with Canada.com, McFeely referenced Captain America: Winter Soldier, where we see photos of Peggy’s two children and her husband is mentioned but never named.

“It depends on what story Marvel wants to tell going forward. I don’t know if Marvel wants to tell any more Captain America stories or if Chris (Evans) is up for it.

“Do they want to tell an alternate timeline story? Chris and I are partial to the idea that Steve is part of a strange, unique time-loop where he has always been there.

“The husband that you very purposefully did not see at Peggy’s bedside in Winter Soldier is Chris’ Steve. We have always thought that he was her husband. The movies you have been watching follow a line where he always goes back.

“To be fair, not everyone agrees with us. I don’t even know if Marvel agrees with us. But that’s what we think.”

While it would be cool to see more Captain America stories with Chris Evans, it’s highly unlikely the actor would return for another outing as Cap.

What is certain, however, is that the ending given to Steve Rogers was perfect, despite being bittersweet for fans.
