On New Year’s Eve, Pete Davidson took the stage at two sold-out shows – his first public performance since an Instagram post a few weeks ago that signalled the comedian might be suicidal.
Never one to disappoint, Davidson shared some light-hearted material about his famous break-up with ex-fiancé Ariana Grande, which has been reported by the New York Times.
“When you get dumped,” Davidson said, pausing as the audience began to cheer. “I’ll stop if you’re going to be stupid.”
Davidson said that his mother, a school nurse, was actually being taunted by a student singing Ariana’s iconic break-up track, ‘thank u, next’. Apparently when the school’s dean was informed, the student was summoned to his office and made to sing the song for four administrators, who Davidson described as “retired cops with moustaches.”
He resolved that the entire break-up experience has,
“showed me how ugly people can get but also how cool.”
In his set Pete Davidson also took aim at the disgraced (but not disowned) comedian Louis CK.
“I got a Harry Potter tattoo. Then the next day Alan Rickman, the guy who played Snape, died. And I was like, ‘Oh, what a weird coincidence,’” Davidson said according to E!.
“Then I got a Willy Wonka tattoo. Next day – Gene Wilder dies. Now I’m like, ‘All right, that’s not a coincidence, that’s weird.’ So, I’m thinking of getting a tattoo of Louis C.K. What do you guys think?”
Davidson went on to claim that Louis CK actually tried to get him fired from Saturday Night Live by advising the producers that he smokes too much weed.
The jokes targeting Louis CK come after audio leaked from CK’s December stand-up performance where he mocked Parkland school shooting survivors and LGBTQ teens. So we’re with Pete on this one. Get the tattoo.
