Ariana Grande Drops New Banger, Thank U, Next, Referencing Pete Davidson And Mac Miller

The song features the lyrics, "Even almost got married/And for Pete I’m so thankful".

Ariana Grande has followed up her savage burn of ex-fiancee Pete Davidson by releasing a track that features not only him but all her exes, as main talking points.

Titled “Thank U, Next”, the song laments over her past relationships with not only Pete Davidson, but also Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, and the late Mac Miller and the lessons they’ve left her with.

Most importantly, the song has a positive tone throughout, with Ariana singing “Thank u, next/I’m so f—ing grateful for my ex” during the chorus. The first verse has Ariana recounting her time with all four of her former beaus:

Thought I’d end up with Sean
But he wasn’t a match
Wrote some songs about Ricky
Now I listen and laugh
Even almost got married
And for Pete I’m so thankful
Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm [Miller]
Cause he was an angel,

“One taught me love
One taught me patience
And one taught me pain
Now I’m so amazing
Say I’ve loved and I’ve lost
But that’s not what I see
So look what I got
Look what you taught me
And for that I say

Despite the positive tones, the song was released ninety minutes before Saturday Night Live was set to go to air, a move that some are saying is a bit of subtle shade towards Pete Davidson.

Nevertheless, Pete addressed the breakup directly during the show, saying:

I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is, it’s nobody’s business. Sometimes things just don’t work out and that’s okay. She’s a wonderful, strong person and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world. Now please go vote on Tuesday, alright?

Which, well, he as a point. But on the other hand, this whole saga has given us some excellent music so really, let’s call it even?
