Anne Hathaway's Relationship With Alcohol And Her Decision To Quit Drinking Is Seriously Important

"I will never be that person who can nurse a glass of wine throughout an entire evening."

Anne Hathaway has opened up about her relationship with alcohol and the reason why she’s decided to stop drinking.

Speaking with Tatler Magazine, the actress said, “My issue is I just love it. So. Much. But the way I do it makes me unavailable for my son.

“My last hangover lasted for five days. I’d earned it: it was a day drinking session with friends that went into an evening birthday party with one of my drinking buddies.

“I will never be that person who can nurse a glass of wine throughout an entire evening.”

She added with a joke that if she hadn’t been an actress she would have been “in the gutter”, saying, “I could have seen myself being a teacher. Or going into the military. Or being some kind of do-gooder with a death wish.

“But more likely than anything else I would have been an alcoholic.”

It’s not the first time Anne has opened up about why she stopped drinking. The actress opened up about it during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, saying she quit drinking in October and plans to stay sober for 18 years.

“I’m going to stop drinking while my son is in my house just because I don’t totally love the way I do it and he’s getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the mornings.”

“I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school — I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover, and that was enough for me. I didn’t love that.”

It’s so great to hear Anne be so open and honest about her struggles with alcohol and we give her huge props for making this decision.
