Boo, the Pomeranian who was once dubbed the ‘world’s cutest dog’, has passed away at the age of 12.
Earlier this afternoon, his owner announced to Boo’s 16 million Facebook fans that Boo had passed away in his sleep.
His passing comes after the death of his best friend and fellow Pomeranian Buddy in 2017. Boo’s owner wrote, “Shortly after Buddy died, Boo showed signs of heart issues. We think his heart literally broke when Buddy left us.”
Boo and Buddy were both Pomeranians, but Boo’s particular cut made him resemble a teddy bear, which definitely contributed to his success.
Boo was one of the first dogs online to gain a following, quickly amassing millions of fans, which led to book deals and a partnership with Gund, the toy manufacturer. He’s also the star of his very own Facebook sticker collection.
Boo was born in 2006 and joined his family that spring, and started gaining attention on social media in 2008. He had previously been the subject of a death hoax in 2012.
