There's A New All-Time Temperature Record Because Adelaide Is Now Basically The Sun

In your FACE, previous temperature records!

As the official South Australian correspondent of GOAT it fills me with parochial pride and also genuine terror to report that Adelaide’s previous highest ever temperature has been smashed in a day which will forever be known alternatively as  The Adelaide Hottacular Temperiffic High Number Day, or possibly The New Summer Normal.

Rundle Mall, right now.

At about 1.45pm it was announced that the weather station on West Terrace in the city had officially hit 46.2 degrees, cracking the previous top of 46.1 back in 1939. In other words: take THAT, Grandpa! Now this generation has complaining rights!

The city has been spontaneously celebrating with things like “reducing tram services because the rails are literally shifting” and “collapsing from heat exhaustion”, as well as the time honoured “going on and on and on about it on social media”. For example:

Of course it’s even hotter up north, where places like Coober Pedy and Ceduna were getting dangerously close to the big 5-0.

Sadly/thankfully a cool change is set to arrive overnight and plunge Adelaide back down to sub-Hellmouth temperatures before the entire place bursts into flames.

But for those of us who lived through it will never stop complaining about that day which was not just really, really hot but the actual hottest.

Until next year, probably.
